ABS hosted a dynamic workshop at the ABS office in Singapore in collaboration with MTI Co., Ltd. The goal of this workshop was to integrate systems engineering principles into the development of an #autonomous framework specifically designed for domestic navigation operations. We are excited to collaborate with MTI on the progressive second phase of the Designing the Future of Fully Autonomous Ships Plus (DFFAS+) project, which falls under the visionary MEGURI2040 program, generously supported by The Nippon Foundation. The workshop brought together technical specialists from diverse fields and facilitated participation from remote locations such as Tokyo and Houston. This collaborative effort is a significant step towards pioneering developments in the #maritime industry.

ABS recently modified "Requirements for Use of Lithium-Ion Batteries in the #Marine and #Offshore Industries" to incorporate important updates. ⚡ These updates include adding new requirements for the lithium-ion battery system components, ventilation system, environment control, and gas detection and introducing goal-based standards and functional requirements. Also included are updates for the main and emergency power sources, battery spaces, fire safety, hazardous areas, risk assessment approach and maintenance manuals.
